Dal

Excellent dish, recommended to serve with white rice

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup or 225gm of chana dal (Yellow Split Pea) washed well
  2. 5 cups or 1.5 litter water
  3. 1/2 ts Turmeric
  4. 2 thin slices of Ginger with the peal
  5. 1 ts Garam Masala
  6. 3 TBs vegteble oil
  7. 1/2 ts Cumin
  8. 2 chopped garlic cloves
  9. 1/4 ts chili powder

Preparation

  1. Boil the pea in water and take away the foam
  2. Add turmeric, cumin, ginger, cover with the water and cook for 1.5 hours
  3. In the last half an hour mix every few minutes so it doesn't stick to the bottom
  4. Discrad of the ginger
  5. In a small pan heat the oil
  6. Fry the garlic until it begins to turn yellow
  7. Add the chili powder to the garlic and immediately take of the fire
  8. Mix well into the dal and take of the fire

If the dal is too hard, add some water
